Many thanks to Cothi Bridge Apartments for facilitating this camera's location and to Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru / Natural Resources Wales for capitally funding this camera's installation. A strategically positioned streaming webcam provided by Farson offers real-time monitoring of water levels and river conditions on the Cothi River. The River Cothi holds the distinction of being the largest tributary of the River Towy, admired for its abundant trout and sea trout (sewin) fishing opportunities and its picturesque landscapes. The upper stretches of the river encompass a steep gorge through which a Roman aqueduct once flowed, supplying water to the gold mines at Dolaucothi. Fascinating remnants of this aqueduct, along with other channels employed in extracting gold from the mines, are still visible at various locations along the Cothi River and its tributaries. The National Trust currently owns the gold mines, which visitors can explore through guided underground tours. Above Pumsaint, the hillside exhibits numerous old adits and galleries, offering a glimpse into the historical mining operations. The aqueducts served to fill several large tanks situated atop the hills near the mine, enabling prospecting for gold veins and facilitating the removal of waste overburden during opencast mining prior to transitioning to underground methods.
